Interlibrary Loan Program
Another service the Goodnight Memorial Library provides is the Interlibrary Loan Program (ILL). Basically, what this means is that if you find a book you would like to read, and we don't have it, we might be able to borrow it from another library for you -- it depends on whether there are other libraries willing to lend it to us. There are a couple of criteria for books and a few rules to follow, but it's an easy process. Here's the policy:
Interlibrary loans are to be offered to any patron in good standing who is unable to find the material desired at the Goodnight Memorial Library. Interlibrary loans may be requested on the following basis:
- Books must be in publication at least 6 months and may not be current bestsellers.
- Photocopies of periodical articles may be requested. If lending library charges a fee, patron is expected to reimburse the Library upon receipt of material(s). Requests must be within copyright restrictions of "fair use."
- Items owned by the Library, but checked out to another patron, may not be borrowed through ILL.
- Patron is responsible for any overdue, special, or replacement fees charged by lending library.
- Interlibrary Loans may not be placed in the drop box. Materials must be returned to a Library staff member at the circulation desk.
- Loan periods must be strictly observed. Any abuse will result in ILL privileges being revoked.
- Patrons can only have four (4) ILL requests at any given time.
- DVD requests -- DVD copyright must be at least 5 years old.
- Revocation of ILL privileges will be assumed the second time a patron does not pick up their borrowed materials.
Just ask for an ILL card at the circulation desk when you are ready, and ask us if you need help with the card. It's really that simple! Sometimes it can take a couple of weeks to get a requested item, but that usually depends on where the item is coming from as most of our out-of-state ILLs come in the US Mail.
