'Tweens & Teens
There are some exciting new things afoot here at the Goodnight! Check back often, because some of you already know we have a Manga collection and have a weekly Game Night. Athena, our Teen Services Librarian, is hard at work for new & exciting things for those kids of age 9-12 ('Tweens) and 13-18 (Teens)!
We have Manga!
You asked for it, and we went and got it! Several of our teens helped us get a Manga collection started by telling us what their favorite series were. Thanks to all of you!
For those of you who don't know, Manga is a form of Japanese literature in which the cartoon characters are drawn anime-style (another Japanese art form). The true manga books read from right to left in authentic Japanese style, which is backwards from what we are taught in America. The best analogy to use to describe a Manga book is to say that it is like a comic book novel. There are no words like a regular novel, and only pictures and dialogue in the comic book form is present. And it reads right to left. It sounds different because it is different!
If you have concerns about the content of these novels, for instance you may have heard that Manga is quite racy, be assured that we review all titles requested by the teens. We also use online resources to vet each title for appropriate content.
Let the Games Begin!
The Goodnight Memorial Library is proud to announce that we have a Game Night just for Teens & Tweens! Thanks to grants from Wal-Mart and the Friends of the Library, we have new LCD TVs, Wii systems and an XBox 360!
If there is a game title you would like to play here, you can send an e-mail to either Athena or Jim for a review. The Library will not allow any games rated worse than T for Teen without a review, and all game requests have to be reviewed before they are allowed. For more info on game ratings, go to the Entertainment Software Rating Board's Web site.

Homework Help!
We know you guys have homework and that your lives can't be all fun and games all the time, so we are starting to offer homework help programs on our Web site. An interesting new site to which we were recently introduced is Shmoop. Though it has a silly name, it looks to be a valuable resource for all middle school, high school and college students. You can even search their site from here by typing in your subject in the box below! We really hope you can find the information you need there, and we hope you'll come back here soon!
